July 2009 Table Show

July was the month for unusual birds in the table show.  There were only three entries this time, but they were all uncommon mutations.  The first place winner was a Blackface Fawn Zebra Finch combination mutation.

Second place went to a very fine White breasted, Redheaded, Silver Lady Gouldian Finch.  The silver mutation comes about from combining all 3 back colors, Green, Yellow, and Blue in one bird.  Oddly enough this combination is one of the LEAST colorful of the gouldian phenotypes, removing almost all color, except for a pale tinge where colors should be.

Third place went to a rare crossover combination, a Fawn-Lightback Zebra Finch.

July 2009 Meeting

Despite a late change in the meeting dates, July's meeting was a full house!  Not just in attendance, but on the raffle and the Sales table as well.  Club member Nancy Belko showed an amazing slideshow of different aviary set ups in her presentation, as well as a guide to Gender clues on identifying Owl Finches.  In addition to the presentation there was an owl finch guessing game for member to try and guess the gender of 5 birds.  2 people got it completely right winning an Owl Finch pin and an Owl Finch hand blown egg.

June 2009 Meeting

Our June meeting was a rare treat.  Speaker Flavia Nougueira talked about handrearing toucans and other birds in her job at Emerald Forest Aviaries She brought along a beautiful, if shy baby Ivory Billed Aracari, and one of her friends had his cockatoo along as well.  In addition to the speaker our VP, Sally Huntington was handfeeding several baby birds including a Blacknaped Fruit Dove named Emmer.  You might recognize him from the Banner above.  The raffle was full of cages, plants and various bird supplies, and there were 2 beautiful gouldians in the Table show.
